Chip Energy Produces Biomass Furnace

Chip Energy Inc. has produced a gasification process for its biomass furnace that is designed to suit the heating needs of homes and businesses. The company describes its furnace as “virtually smokeless” because of gasification technology. Chip Energy is currently working with high-tech equipment and experts to scientifically show the emissions are clean, as well as smoke-free.

Biomass is any fuel source derived from a once-living organism — most commonly plants. The stored energy in the dry plant matter used in the furnace is released as a combustible gas by using micro-gasifiers. The gas is then directed to a combustor where it is mixed with oxygen and combusted with extremely low emissions.

The furnace is designed to utilize any kind of biomass as long as it is processed in an appropriate chip size that can pass through the fuel system. Customers who farm or live in rural areas can lessen the expense of the chip fuel by mixing their own waste biomass into the hopper. The hopper is built to hold up to two weeks of fuel using standard wood chips.
