Latest and greatest offerings in the engineering marketplace
By Design News Staff -- Design News, February 16, 1998
Ball grid arrays are an alternative to pins for surface-mount devices, including adapter, hybrid, and Correct-A-Chip(TM) products. Ball grid arrays permit connections over the entire bottom surface of the device, and are available for ceramic or laminate-type boards. The arrays use 0.020- to 0.030-inch diameter spheres composed of 90% Pb/10% Sn. Available down to 0.8 mm pitch, the arrays offer coplanarity within 0.004 inch. Shear strength for 0.030-inch spheres is greater than 2 lbs.
