Gear boxes
Latest and greatest offerings in the engineering marketplace
By Design News Staff -- Design News, February 2, 1998
Reversing gear boxes reverse the direction of rotation of the output shaft relative to the input shaft, feature clockwise or counterclockwise rotation of input and output shafts, speeds to 4,000 rpm, and ratios of 1:1 or 2:1. The gear boxes are rated to a maximum power of 3.8 hp at 1,800 rpm. Using an internal splined slide-dog mechanism, the straight bevel gears are clutched in and out, allowing for multiple re-engagement positions. The shafts are hardened and tempered alloy steel.
