The mechanical model atop Tom Watson's desk says it all. A 70-lb collection of cranks and gears, the model was built to show how power moves through Ford Motor Co.'s new hybrid vehicles. In truth, though, it's far more than a technology demonstrator. It's really a mock-up of Ford's future. Turn one crank and you simulate the action of a gasoline-powered engine.
